Panum Crater in moonlight

Panum Crater, Mono Lake, California.

After spending a few hours photographing South Tufa in moonlight Dan, Olivia, Ralf and I drove to the near-by Panum Crater. It's a beautiful place. We walked down to the base of the volcano crater, setup our cameras and went for a little hike. My camera was pointing towards the North Star. I wanted the edge of rocky volcano formation to point to the center of the star trail circle, imitating the roundness of the volcano itself. During the 50 minute exposure we hiked the Rim Trail that sits on top of the outer ring of the crater. The view was marvelous, overlooking Mono Lake and the sagebrush covered land.
